Pop Culture

The magazine that I possess, displays the epitome of pop culture in my opinion. The title of the magazine is XXL .The sub-title of the magazine id “10 Reasons Why Hip-Hop Ain’t Dead. It glamorizes the life of the rich and the famous; predominately, the African American race. It is filled with pictures of rappers such as Jay-Z , Lil Wayne, the ever so handsome T.I Chingy and other Rappers. When I read the magazine, I find myself wanting to portray some of the images that I see. The expensive cars, the pretty made up weave wearing women; just the overall attitude of the people in the magazine is desired. This magazine is heavily marketed to the African American male. There are pictures of scantily clad women too, what a surprise. The whole tone of the magazine says BLACK. I also find it amusing that this magazine is just like some sort of tabloid because it talks about rumors and rivalries among popular rappers and artists such as the infamous kiss between rappers Lil Wayne and Baby. I thought that some of the comments that the readers left were quite hilarious. All in all, this magazine exhibits what matters most in our American society today. Get money! Money is power and it brings you respect. No matter what way you get your money, does not matter, just as long as you have it. It is simply strongly personified in this magazine.

I agree when you say that the magazine is geared towards african american males. one reason is that only male rap artists are on the cover(except one where the fab Kimora Lee Simmons graced the cover) and my brother has a million of their magazines!

I think that you really painted a vivid picture of the hip hop culture for those who don't have a clue what hip hop is.
