Horror Movies

Horror movies have come a long way since their beginning. They are all very unique and can be very interesting and scary or they can be so phony that people are disgusted . There are several things that I have noticed about scary movies that seem to be what makes them a scary movies. One of the biggest conventions of Horror movies is the use of darkness. Darkness is a symbol of uncertainty, evil, barrenness. Most of the time one will see that the There are all some of the things that the characters in horror movies experience or see while the movie is going on. It also acts as a type of blindness so that the main characters do not know what to expect on their quest to remove themselves from the precarious situation. Most times the evil character has black eyes symbolizing their lack of a soul and most times their evil deeds are done at night . The music that is used in scary movies also acts to further the suspense in the movie. There will be scenes in a movie where there is total silence and the main characters can only hear their own movements and nothing else. There are also times where there is music playing such as a sick violin, or a daring devilish cello and then the villan jumps out and the music erupts while the victim is taken away or killed. All in all , I personally hate scary movies because of these conventions and the many others used to make one feel that “fight or flight” emotion. I’ts just not necessary.

Lyrics to a Song

One of my most favorite rock bands is Evanescence and I decided to look at their song “ Call ME When You’re Sober”. It is a really interesting and energetic song. I like the raw emotion that Amy Lee the lead singer of the bad emits as she talks about the woes of having a boyfriend that had an alcohol problem. Amy Lee used to date the lead singer from the band Seether . She even collaborated on a song with him for the soundtrack for the Punisher. The song that they did together was called “ Broken”. In the song “ Call Me When You’re Sober” , Lee tells he listeners how hard it was to be with a person with the type of addiction that he had. She goes back and forth with her mixed feelings toward the situation “ Should I let you fall ? Lose it all ? So maybe you can remember yourself.” Her ex-boyfriend had turned into someone totally different and she thinks that perhaps if she let him learn the hard way, he will come back to his senses. She in another verse comes to see that he is trying to blame all of his troubles on everyone else instead of himself. /’ Couldn’t take the blame, sick with shame, must be exhausting to lose your own game, selfishly hated ,no wonder your jaded, you can’t play the victim this time, and you’re too late. All this was due to a drinking problem which plagues hundreds of other people in the world. This is why the song was such a hiy. Other people can relate to the feelings that Amy Lee was sharing in her song.

Presentations

I though that there was a wide variety of presentations that I saw today. I though that they were very interesting. I though that the presentation involving the PlayStation's under toned message of racism was very interesting. I also liked learning about the different types of tanning lotions that there are. They however, all seemed to be very short including mine, I'm still wondering if my presentation was a least five minutes. I am just happy that they are over.

Baby Phat

One of my favorite designer labels is Baby Phat by Kimora Lee Simmons. Hence I decided to look it up on Wikipedia because I know so much about the subject. The web page seemed pretty accurate. It talked about how she was married to Russell Simmons and how Baby Phat is the sister company to her husband’s company Phat Farm. The information that is present is right but there are some statements made needed to be verified. For example, there was a statement that said something about the meaning of the sleek cat which is used as the symbol for Baby Phat. It said that the cat symbolized the Egyptian goddess Bast . Right next to the sentence that said this, there was a word that said that there was some citation needed for this statement. So when people read this, they knew that this statement still needs to be verified. I did not know that the cat was the symbol for the Egyptian goddess Bast. I also saw that the page missing some information. It did not seem to be very up to date at all. It did not have the fact that Kimora Lee Simmons the creator of Baby Phat had two children. It lacks the fact that the location of the Baby Phat headquarters is in California. From the looks of it, it doesn’t appear that this page has been tampered with much by vandals so far. Most of the information on there seems pretty accurate.

Viva La Viagra

I was watching the third installment of the God Father Saga on the AMC channel last night and as usual a slew of commercials came on. A very commercial came on. It showed a married couple during their daily routine and how each one greeted each other when they came home from their day jobs. The commercial showed how the man and the wife greeted each other the very same way each and every day. This was to show the fact that their lives were pretty boring and there was not much excitement at all. After showing that this couple did the same thing every day, it shows the man driving into the drive way of their suburban home in a new Harley Davidson bike. The woman is very surprised and drops her grocery. She quickly walks up to her husband and starts smiling with him. The commercial later shows the two of them riding together on the motorcycle on the open road. It turns out that this is a commercial for erectile dysfunction and Viagra is being promoted. I was really surprised because I would have never thought that this was going to be a commercial for guys who have trouble” flying their flag”. When I think about it, this commercial is marketed to not just men but both men and women. You have the men who feel incompetent because they can’t “put on a good show “in the bed. This is also for the women who have to put up with men who can not perform and meet their needs. The happy wife is supposed to appeal to the female population with the men who have the problem. At the end of the commercial, you see that the couple riding on the motorcycle has stopped at a motel to “dance the tango” after their little excursion. The Viagra Company comes up with some really quirky ideas.

Pop Culture

The magazine that I possess, displays the epitome of pop culture in my opinion. The title of the magazine is XXL .The sub-title of the magazine id “10 Reasons Why Hip-Hop Ain’t Dead. It glamorizes the life of the rich and the famous; predominately, the African American race. It is filled with pictures of rappers such as Jay-Z , Lil Wayne, the ever so handsome T.I Chingy and other Rappers. When I read the magazine, I find myself wanting to portray some of the images that I see. The expensive cars, the pretty made up weave wearing women; just the overall attitude of the people in the magazine is desired. This magazine is heavily marketed to the African American male. There are pictures of scantily clad women too, what a surprise. The whole tone of the magazine says BLACK. I also find it amusing that this magazine is just like some sort of tabloid because it talks about rumors and rivalries among popular rappers and artists such as the infamous kiss between rappers Lil Wayne and Baby. I thought that some of the comments that the readers left were quite hilarious. All in all, this magazine exhibits what matters most in our American society today. Get money! Money is power and it brings you respect. No matter what way you get your money, does not matter, just as long as you have it. It is simply strongly personified in this magazine.
